Mabuhay Energy Powers Corinthian Gardens: First ‘All-in-One’ Community Switch to Retail Electricity Supply
Mabuhay Energy, Susuplayan ng Kuryente ang Corinthian Gardens: Kauna-unahang ‘All-in-One’ na Komunidad na Lilipat sa Mas Murang Retail Electricity Supply...
Unlike standard retail supply contracts that typically cater to commercial or industrial establishments, this historic partnership represents a major evolution in the energy market. The initiative uniquely aggregates residential properties, administrative facilities, and recreational hubs under a singular, community-wide energy ecosystem.
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (July 6, 2026) — In a landmark development for the country’s residential power sector, the Corinthian Gardens Homeowners Association (HOA) has officially signed a Retail Supply Contract (RSC) with Mabuhay Energy Corporation (MECO). This marks the Philippines' first comprehensive, community-wide transition to a Retail Electricity Supplier (RES) under the government’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
The ceremonial signing brought together top executives from MECO, Corinthian Gardens Homeowners Association Board Members, and industry leaders and partners from the energy sector, including the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), and Manila Electric Company (MERALCO).
Unlike standard retail supply contracts that typically cater to commercial or industrial establishments, this historic partnership represents a major evolution in the energy market. The initiative uniquely aggregates residential properties, administrative facilities, and recreational hubs under a singular, community-wide energy ecosystem.
The breakthrough agreement was initiated by Board Member Wellington Kho, leveraging a trusted partnership with MECO that began in 2023. Having successfully integrated MECO across his commercial malls, office spaces, and Jollibee franchises, Kho’s proven track record established a solid foundation for this pioneering community switch.
"Today marks an important milestone for Corinthian Gardens," said Zarina W. Jorge, President of the Corinthian Gardens Homeowners Association (HOA). "This agreement represents our shared commitment to innovation and responsible stewardship. As your HOA's President, I am proud that Corinthian Gardens continues to seek opportunities that directly benefit our residents. By partnering with Mabuhay Energy, we are taking a meaningful step toward a more efficient energy future while ensuring that the interests of our homeowners remain at the heart of every decision."
MECO Executive Chairman Sherwin G. Hing expressed his deep gratitude to the HOA board for their trust and confidence, assuring them that MECO deeply values this partnership.
Since its inception, MECO has worked hand-in-hand with key industry leaders to pave the way for progressive power choice programs.
"To the ERC, the IEMOP, and our partner distribution utility, MERALCO: Your support and continued collaboration have been instrumental in MECO’s journey," Mr. Hing added. "From the day we launched our operations at the height of the pandemic up until today, your trust has empowered us to achieve milestones we never imagined possible."
Key energy stakeholders expressed their enthusiasm and congratulations for the pioneering move.
Sheryl A. Castro, SAVP and Head of the MERALCO Competitive Market Group, noted the collaborative milestone: "This is not merely a group of customers switching suppliers—this is proof that the vision behind Retail Aggregation is becoming a reality. It demonstrates that regulators, retail electricity suppliers, distribution utilities, and customers can work together to create solutions that deliver value, choice, and innovation."
Arjon B. Valencia, Manager of Corporate Planning and Communications at IEMOP, echoed this sentiment: "Today’s signing ceremony demonstrates that the industry is ready to embrace this next chapter. It reflects the confidence of retail suppliers like Mabuhay Energy in delivering innovative energy solutions and highlights the willingness of consumers to actively participate in shaping the future of the electricity market."
Dir. Sharon O. Montañer, Director of the ERC’s Market Operations Service, shared her optimism for the initiative and her hope for broader residential participation in the competitive market, highlighting the historic shift: "For the longest time, households were passive consumers—without a say in where their power came from or how it was priced. Today, that narrative changes. By stepping into the competitive market, you gain the power to shop around, compare terms, and select a partner that truly aligns with your community's needs."
With this pioneering community-wide switch, MECO and Corinthian Gardens have set a powerful new precedent for Philippine residential estates. The partnership charts a clear course toward more competitive electricity rates, reliable localized services, and true consumer empowerment across the country's residential sector.
