This surge can be linked to the ongoing outages, the impact of the prevailing easterly winds, and the weakening of "amihan”. These conditions can still be expected up to the first two weeks of March. Additionally, according to PAG-ASA, the strong El Niño is expected to end this month, but its adverse effects may continue to be felt until May. The average electricity demand in the Luzon-Visayas grid went up to as high as 11,536 MW while average electricity prices went up as high as Php 12.11 per kwH. Here's the day-to-day breakdown: Feb 16: Friday - Northeast monsoon affected Northern Luzon while the Easterly winds affected the rest of the country. GNPD Unit 2 shut down from a planned outage. Ilijan GT1-2 shut down from a forced/unplanned outage while Iliana GT2-1 tripped and then came back online from a forced/unplanned outage. San Lorenzo Module 60 came online from a planned outage. Feb 17: Saturday - Northeast Monsoon affected Northern Luzon while Easterlies affected the rest of the country. GMEC Unit 1 tripped from a forced/unplanned outage. Feb 18: Sunday - Easterly winds affecting the country. GMEC Unit 1 came back online from a forced/unplanned outage Feb 19: Monday - Easterly winds affecting the country.
