La Electricista was founded in 1892 and became the Philippines’ first electric company to provide electricity in Manila, paving the way for a new era of innovation and urban transformation. Formerly known as Sociedad Mercantil, the company built its first power station on Calle San Sebastian now (R. Hidalgo Street) in Quiapo, Manila. In 1895, just three years after its establishment, La Electricista powered Manila’s streets for the first time.
