La Electricista was founded in 1892 and became the Philippines’ first electric company to provide electricity in Manila, paving the way for a new era of innovation and urban transformation. Formerly known as Sociedad Mercantil, the company built its first power station on Calle San Sebastian now (R. Hidalgo Street) in Quiapo, Manila. We've compiled the Luzon average electricity prices and demand per day, along with the power plant activities that occurred each day. We also include environmental factors that may affect our electricity prices and demand. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧: The average market demand decreased slightly as the average market price went down this past week. The low average temperatures and scattered heavy rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon and Severe Tropical Storm "Kristine" resulted in lower electricity demand and prices in the market. The average electricity demand in the Luzon grid went down to as low as 7,627 MW while average electricity prices went to as low as Php 1.71 per kWh. The grid was on 'BLUE ALERT' due to Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine” on October 22, which was forecast to move generally northwestward. It was expected to make landfall in either Isabela or Northern Aurora within the next 24 hours, on October 23. This groundbreaking panel discussion brought together business executives, industry experts, and thought leaders to discuss advancements in rooftop solar technology in the Philippines. The speakers underscored significant breakthroughs, emphasizing the role of rooftop solar in enhancing energy efficiency and promoting energy independence. With a theme focusing on the growing role of solar energy and storage technologies, including recent developments and investments, Jacqueline Castillo, REE, RME, MBA, noted that retail electricity suppliers (RES) can utilize blended financing options that combine Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with green financing. This approach benefits Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers by minimizing upfront costs and allowing payments for solar rooftop installations to be integrated into the retail supply contract. This win-win solution not only secures long-term contracts but also delivers savings for customers. Carlo Morales passionately discussed the transformative potential of battery storage technology. He addressed key challenges such as procurement issues, power quality concerns like voltage fluctuations, and peak demand management.
