Empowering the Philippine Economy Through the Power of Choice: MECO at the Philippines Energy Forum 2026
At the Philippines Energy Forum 2026, MECO President & CEO Jacqueline Castillo highlighted how RCOA, GEOP, and Retail Aggregation give businesses choice, cost savings of up to 30% on generation, and the flexibility to fuel growth.
Industry leaders and innovators recently convened at the Manila Marriott for the Philippines Energy Forum 2026 to address a critical challenge: "Balancing Energy Security and Sustainability in a Rapidly Growing Economy."
Representing the Retail Electricity Supplier sector, Mabuhay Energy Corporation's President and CEO, Jacqueline Castillo, participated on a distinguished panel discussing the evolving energy landscape. She emphasized the pivotal role of the Retail Competition and Open Access framework as a catalyst for driving economic resilience and sustainable growth in the Philippines.
Castillo noted that many Commercial and Industrial consumers remain "captive" to traditional distribution utilities, bound by long-term Power Purchase Agreements offering minimal flexibility during crises. She advocated that programs like RCOA, the Green Energy Option Program, and Retail Aggregation restore consumer choice and control.
Generation charges typically comprise 50% to 60% of total electricity bills. Switching to a Retail Electricity Supplier enables businesses to access fixed rates, potential savings of up to 30% on generation costs, and greater operational flexibility to adapt to economic growth.
Castillo connected energy strategy to social impact, stating that "savings can be reinvested to expand businesses and create jobs." She emphasized that Mabuhay Energy's mission centers on providing solutions that empower the Philippine business community's growth through the power of choice and cost savings.
