Mabuhay Energy Strengthens Drive to Educate Homeowners on RCOA

MANILA, Philippines — Following a historic milestone in the Philippine residential power sector, Mabuhay Energy Corporation (MECO) is ramping up its educational and outreach campaign to bring the benefits of Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) directly to Filipino homeowners.

The momentum comes on the heels of a pioneering transition in Corinthian Gardens, where an initial wave of 24 residential properties—along with the village clubhouse and administrative office—officially switched to MECO as their Retail Electricity Supplier (RES). Marking the country's first comprehensive, community-wide transition to a competitive electricity provider under the government's RAP framework, the success at Corinthian Gardens serves as a working model for residential power reform. 

Building on this initial breakthrough, MECO recently convened a second follow-up assembly with the Corinthian Gardens Homeowners Association (HOA) board and residents. The strategic session aimed to answer pressing technical questions, outline transparent pricing structures, and encourage more homeowners to make the switch. By consolidating energy demands through the Retail Aggregation Program, individual households can aggregate their consumption capacity to meet the threshold set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for contestable market status. This mechanism transforms passive electricity consumers into active market participants, allowing them to secure customized rates, flexible power packages, and reliable service terms tailored to their lifestyle. 

While Corinthian Gardens represents a high-profile proof-of-concept, MECO emphasizes that its mandate extends far beyond gated, premier subdivisions. The Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) envisioned a deregulated, open market designed to benefit all end-users. MECO’s long-term goal is to democratize energy choice, making competitive pricing, operational transparency, and potential green-energy integration accessible to residential communities, neighborhood associations, and medium-scale consumer clusters across the nation.  "Consumer choice should not be a privilege reserved only for heavy industrial plants or corporate towers. Through RCOA and RAP, every Filipino homeowner gains the power to decide who fuels their home and at what cost," said Engr.
